Challenge Ladder Rules - new rule below 11/3/08
General Rules for the Mixed Doubles Ladder
- Both members of any team must be Unstrung members.
- A challenge must be completed within 21 days of being issued and accepted.
- All challenge matches are to be played at regular Unstrung Open Tennis times and places. You must notify the Open Tennis Host beforehand so that extra courts may be reserved for you.
- All matches shall be the best of 3 sets, regular scoring. (NO-ADD scoring may be used "only" when all 4 players agree to it)
- Any team on the Ladder that has accepted a challenge is NOT required to accept a second challenge until the first challenge match has been played. The team receiving that second challenge must inform the second challenger when the first challenge match is to be played.
- NEW 11/03/08:
Any two teams that play a challenge ladder match can NOT play another
challenge ladder match against each other until at least one of the two
teams has played a challenge ladder match against a different opponent.
This is to prevent a team from making a challenge, playing the match and
losing it, and then immediately challenging the same team again.
- Any team on the Ladder that wishes to no longer play together as a team may request the Unstrung Ladder Coordinator remove them from the Ladder. Each team member would then be available to play with a different partner and challenge the Ladder as a new team. Any individual may only be on the Ladder with one team partner at any given time.
- The current Ladder will be maintained by an Unstrung Ladder Coordinator. It will be published each month in the Unstrung Newsletter and it may be published on the Unstrung web site.
- These rules for the Mixed Doubles Ladder may be modified/enhanced as needed. Any/all disputes or conflicts will be resolved by the Unstrung Ladder coordinator. All decisions by that coordinator will be final!
General procedure for challenges.
- Contact either member of the team (in person, phone or email)
- Issue your challenge. If this team has already accepted another challenge, then they cannot accept your challenge and they must inform you who their challenge was from and the date that the challenge is to be played (must be played within 21 days of being accepted). If that date has not yet been determined, they must inform you of that date when that date has been set.
- If this team does not have another challenge that they have already accepted (may require coordination with partner), then they must accept your challenge. And now you have 21 days to schedule and play the challenge.
Challenging a team on the Ladder when you are NOT already on the Ladder.
- You may challenge any team on the Ladder, including the top team.
- If the challenger team wins the match, then the challenger team replaces the challenged team and the challenged team and all teams below it move down one position.
- If the challenger team loses the match, then the challenger team is placed at the bottom position of the Ladder and no other Ladder positions change.
Challenging a team on the Ladder when you are already on the Ladder.
- You may challenge any of the three(3) teams on the Ladder positions immediately above you.
- If the challenger team wins the match, then the challenger team replaces the challenged team and the challenged team and all teams below it move down one position.
- If the challenger team loses the match, then no Ladder positions change.
