Unstrung Racquets

PROCEDURES & ETIQUETTE

  • Begin warm-up 30 minutes before play begins. Please do not use game balls until play begins.
  • Warm up serve prior to game time. «First one in» is not recommended.
  • Open tennis is played under the direction of the Open Tennis Chairperson of the day. Please follow his/her directions with courtesy.
  • In order not to spoil the game for others, do not come to play unless you can stay for the entire time.
  • Sets are played for 30 minutes. Scoring is no-add. The set is won either by the first to 6 by 2 (tie break okay), or by the team with the highest number games when time is called. In the event of a tie when time is called, the server in line serves one point to the same sex opponent to determine the winner.
  • Spin the racquet for side or serve. Change sides on odd number of games.
  • Typically, winning team moves to the lower number court and losing team moves to the higher number court for next set. Partners split and play with the man/woman from the other team. If same sex teams are involved, either play with the one you have not played with yet or spin racquet to determine your partner.
  • It is understood that the end court may be a singles game or an Australian doubles game. Each person keeps track of their own scores and the man and woman move to the next court at the end of the set, or the two highest scores if all one sex.
  • Two common complaints concern line calls and foot faults. Please be very generous with line calls, and police yourself as to foot faults. Discuss serious problems with the Open Tennis or Tournament Captains.
  • Announce the score prior to serving each point.
  • Refrain from stalling, sulking or gamesmanship.
